Note: The Kern River Preserve is temporarily closed due to flooding.
The Kern River Preserve Headquarters and Visitor Center is closed due to flooding of our access road. We are very pleased to have precipitation and normal stream flows on the South Fork Kern River. However, the river continues to naturally and inevitably meander toward our buildings so we anticipate that this closure will be extended and will eventually force us to relocate our public access. We are working to secure permits and funding to provide a new access area for visitation in a less flood-prone location. In the meantime, Fay Ranch Road and the South Fork Wildlife Area are alternative sites for viewing the river forest.
The Kern River Preserve is managed by Audubon California for the preservation of one of California’s finest remaining riparian forests and the wildlife it supports.
