He will give a presentation on Friday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m.  on "Warblers of the Region and Beyond".

Crested Caracara on the Preserve

On March 25th, Bill Foster, Darrell Barnes, Chris & Gordon Hancock observed a Crested Caracara on the Kern River Preserve. It was refound on March 27th by Walter Mecham who notified  Alison Sheehey, KRP's Outreach Coordinator. It flew over Alison, Walter, and Guy Straker as John Schmitt, raptor expert arrived on scene. This is the first county record for a Crested Caracara and closely follows one observed over the winter in San Bernardino County.

Poppies!!!! and lots of other flowers

The hills above the South Fork Forest are full of wildflowers. Sprague Ranch acquisition lands are adding new species to the Kern River Preserve plant list. Most of best poppy displays are on the land acquired in 2005.

See our plant list and visit soon to enjoy spring's bounty on the Preserve and in the entire Kern River Valley.

Leaving A Legacy for the land

The Kern River Preserve was named a beneficiary in the will of local artist, Robert Linden. Bob's bequest of over twenty-two thousand dollars is one of the largest gifts that we have ever received from an individual. He enjoyed taking his beloved dog, Sophie, on walks along the Kern River while taking in the beauty of preserve's magnificent forest. As a former city person, Bob appreciated the uniqueness of our area and through his executor chose to help protect local open
spaces. His legacy will live on while supporting Outreach and Education, Land Protection, Research and Land Stewardship at the Kern River Preserve. Our staff and volunteers will work to use this generous gift to the best of our ability to honor Bob and his love for wildlife and nature.

Is is easy to follow Bob's example and help the Kern River Preserve to protect this land in perpetuity. Planned giving is one of the most powerful ways for an individual or family to help create a lasting benefit for the wildlife, the land and the people at this Preserve. It is really simple to do find specific instructions on our legacy webpage.
