The land protected by efforts of Audubon and its partners now exceeds 22,000 acres to be protected for the benefit of biodiversity and future generations who find nature compelling without the desire to consume every inch of it.
Prior to becoming a preserve, the land was locally known as the A. Brown Ranch. The land had been operated as a cattle ranch since the mid-1800s.
